Hydrogen chloride gas absorption system

HCl emission control and recovery

Turn a corrosive waste gas into recoverable hydrochloric acid.

Hydrogen chloride is highly soluble in water, but absorption releases substantial heat. The achievable acid concentration therefore depends on gas partial pressure, temperature and how effectively heat is removed. Mixed gases containing chlorine, sulfur dioxide, inerts or organic vapours can require additional separation and scrubbing stages. Borosilicate glass is well suited to HCl gas and hydrochloric acid service, excluding glass-attacking contaminants such as hydrofluoric acid. UD Technologies selects batch, adiabatic packed-column or isothermal falling-film arrangements around feed composition and product-acid target.

10–900 kg/h

Falling-film systems across a broad incoming HCl range.

Up to 30% HCl

Achievable in suitable absorber conditions.

High absorption efficiency

Cooled film and secondary scrubbing recover residual gas.

Mixed-gas engineering

Design accounts for chlorine, SO₂, inerts and organics.

Salient features

Control absorption heat and residual gas together.

Materials, utilities, controls and equipment arrangement are selected around the feed and required product.

Corrosion-resistant glass

Borosilicate construction suits HCl gas and acid service.

Absorption-heat removal

Cooling stabilises temperature and increases acid concentration.

Wide gas-loading range

Film wetting and circulation accommodate changing flow.

Secondary scrubbing

Recover residual HCl from gases leaving the primary absorber.

Acid recovery

Produce a reusable hydrochloric-acid stream instead of only neutralising gas.

Impurity-aware design

Organic vapours and co-contaminants influence process selection.

Process configuration

Choose adiabatic packed-column or isothermal film absorption.

Final capacity, materials and instrumentation are confirmed against the process data and site utilities.
